The Kovel City and District Court delivered a guilty verdict against a serviceman who committed a number of criminal offences. Specifically, he was found guilty of inflicting stab wounds on two men during a conflict and detonating a hand grenade in the courtyard of a multi-storey building. This was reported by the publication «Konkurent», citing the court's decision.
The first episode of the criminal case occurred in the early hours of 29 April 2022. The events unfolded in the apartment of the defendant's mother. During a quarrel caused by personal animosity, the man, who was in a state of alcohol intoxication, attacked those present. He struck one of them with a kitchen knife in the left thigh, and the other in the chest.
The consequences for the second victim proved critical: he sustained a severe injury with damage to the thoracic and abdominal cavities, the diaphragm, and the stomach wall. The injuries were life-threatening. During the court hearing, the defendant admitted his guilt. The man who suffered the most severe injuries stated that he had no claims against the attacker, as his medical expenses were being reimbursed.
The second incident examined by the court took place on 23 August 2025. According to the investigation, the defendant was illegally storing ammunition and explosives. A block of TNT, cartridges, and an F-1 hand grenade were found in his possession. At approximately 16:30, he activated the grenade and threw it into the courtyard of an apartment building located on Zavodska Street in Kovel.
As a result of the explosion, two cars were damaged: a Peugeot and a Volkswagen Multivan.
In court, the serviceman explained that he had received the knife and a bag with ammunition from his comrades during his service. Regarding the throwing of the grenade, he insisted that he did so after sustaining a head injury and returning home, emphasising that he had no intention of harming those around him. The defendant admitted his guilt and asked for forgiveness.
Judge Volodymyr Hubar found the man guilty of committing the aforementioned crimes. However, the published materials do not specify what exact punishment was imposed on the guilty party.
