No agreement was reached on allocating additional funds for Ukraine at the meeting of heads of state and government of the European Union in Brussels. This was stated by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz while summarising the outcomes of the summit.
Consensus without specific figures
According to Merz, there is broad agreement among EU leaders on the need to continue supporting Kyiv during the winter and into next year. At the same time, the politician noted that no specific decisions on the scale of new funding were made at this stage.
Plan for further discussions
European leaders plan to return to the issue of financial aid to Ukraine as early as November and December. New discussions are expected to take place at that time.
Ukrainian budget needs
Earlier, while visiting Brussels, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasised that the country requires a further €70 billion in support. The head of state also informed that a shortfall of $27 billion has emerged in the state budget for the current year.
