Financial support for the defence sector

In 2026–2027, Poland will receive over €600 million from the European Peace Facility. These funds serve as compensation for part of the costs incurred by Warsaw in supplying weapons to Ukraine. The received resources will be directed towards the modernisation of the Polish armed forces, credited to a special fund supporting the army.

Details of financial planning

This became known on 28 September, when “Yevropeiska Pravda” reported the information, citing RMF24. Ahead of the meeting of EU defence ministers, Polish Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Zalewski explained the structure of the funding.

According to him, Warsaw has already agreed to receive over €400 million gross from the remaining European Peace Facility funds during the specified period. An additional €269 million will be added to this base amount — these are the funds whose use was previously blocked by Hungary.

Total volume of aid since 2022

Zalewski clarified that, taking the new funding into account, the total amount of funds Poland will receive from the European Peace Facility since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine will amount to €1.05 billion net.
