Assessment of the current security situation

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte stated that there are currently no signs that Russia is preparing for direct military action against member states of the Alliance. At the same time, he emphasised that the Russian Federation continues to remain a long-term threat to the security of the entire European continent.

Weakness instead of strength

According to the head of the Alliance, Russia's current position is not favourable. He noted that the hybrid attacks carried out by Moscow against European states indicate weakness rather than strength.

Readiness to respond

Rutte stressed that if Russia prepares an attack on NATO, allies will respond immediately.

«Ми будемо захищати кожен дюйм території країн НАТО, незалежно від того, живуть там люди чи ні, чи розташована вона поблизу Парижа, Таллінна, Вашингтона чи Оттави. У нас є всі необхідні плани, і ми до цього готові» (We will defend every inch of NATO territory, regardless of whether people live there or not, or whether it is located near Paris, Tallinn, Washington or Ottawa. We have all the necessary plans, and we are ready for this), the NATO Secretary-General said.
