Security breach in northern part of airport
On the evening of 17 October, a breach in the integrity of the protective fence was recorded near the runway at Leipzig/Halle Airport (Germany). Due to the incident, operations in the northern part of the airfield were temporarily suspended.
Information about the incident was released by the police, according to a link cited by the publication Bild.
Law enforcement version
«З великою ймовірністю через огорожу проїхав якийсь автомобіль. Однак під час огляду території аеропорту не вдалося виявити ані автомобіль, ані осіб, які не мають права там перебувати» (It is highly likely that some vehicle drove through the fence. However, during the inspection of the airport grounds, neither a vehicle nor any persons not authorised to be there were found), a police spokesperson said.
Response from security services and carriers
Amazon cargo aircraft were forced to change their landing plan and use the southern runway. Officers from the German Federal Police and the state police of Saxony arrived at the scene immediately. Law enforcement officers conducted a detailed inspection of the airport grounds.
Context: Russian planes
According to Bild, the breach in the perimeter occurred in the sector where three Russian cargo planes are located. These aircraft have been unable to fly since 2022, following the start of Russia's full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, when they were banned from taking off from German territory.
