Aftermath of the natural disaster in central Chile

Central regions of Chile suffered devastating impacts from heavy rains, which triggered massive floods and landslides. The situation was particularly severe around the Mapocho River, which overflowed its banks and flooded adjacent areas, including the country's capital, Santiago.

Currents of water mixed with mud and stones swept away vehicles, flooded residential houses, and even a medical facility. According to the latest figures, 384 people have been identified as victims of the emergency, and over 1,000 residential buildings have sustained damage.

Dramatic rescue of the driver

A truck driver who found himself in the epicentre of the events managed to save his life. When a powerful current overturned his vehicle, the man managed to climb onto the truck's body. He then clung to the nearest tree while the river destroyed the city.
