Zelensky confirms readiness to run in elections during wartime

President's stance on upcoming elections

Head of state Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his view on a possible change of power amid active hostilities. He emphasised that he would not decline participation in electoral processes if they become a reality against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict.

Justification of the decision

Commenting on journalists' questions about whether he would agree to compete for the post of head of state under such difficult circumstances, Zelensky highlighted his personal responsibility towards the nation.

«Якщо це відбудеться під час війни, звісно, це моя відповідальність. Тому що я повинен захищати свою країну від самого початку і до кінця цієї війни» (If this happens during the war, of course, it is my responsibility. Because I must defend my country from the very beginning to the end of this war), the president noted.

Thus, the head of state underlined that his mission is linked to the defence of the country throughout the entire period of military operations.
