Lawyer Samarets claims evidence has been falsified

Dnipro lawyer Alexander Samarets, who is suspected of high treason, has publicly rejected the charges, claiming that the evidence against him has been falsified. In a statement distributed to Ukrainian media, the lawyer emphasised his innocence and described the situation as an attempt to pressure him in his capacity as a lawyer.

Lawyer's statement

According to the suspect, known as Samarets, the prosecution is operating with forged materials, and he has not been granted access to the original evidence. The lawyer believes that the prosecution is linked to his professional activities, hinting at targeted pressure on lawyers.

Detention and charges

Samarets was detained at the Krakovec checkpoint while attempting to cross the border. According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the lawyer allegedly passed coordinates of several facilities to the Russian Federal Security Service, which subsequently became targets of missile strikes.

As a result of the shelling, six people were killed, 30 were injured, and significant damage was inflicted on infrastructure.

Preventive measures and case progress

Detention was chosen as the preventive measure for the suspect, while the investigation continues. The SBU claims to have sufficient evidentiary basis for the charges.

Samarets maintains his innocence and is ready to defend his position in court, claiming that the case against him has a political background.
