MPs oppose Shokin for Prosecutor General post

Today, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko submitted the candidate for the new Prosecutor General to parliament. In the President's view, Viktor Shokin, who has been acting as Prosecutor General since the resignation of Vitaly Yarema, should become the new head of the Prosecutor General's Office.

However, MPs of the Verkhovna Rada are not enthusiastic about Shokin's candidacy. In their opinion, the Prosecutor General should be selected on a competitive basis, just like the head of the anti-corruption bureau.

A similar stance is held not only by MPs from the coalition, but also by many independent MPs. The vote will show how the confrontation between the President and the MPs ends.
