AI reduces brain's capacity for self-analysis

A study involving more than 600 participants showed that active use of artificial intelligence in everyday tasks may reduce the brain's ability for independent analysis and critical thinking.

What did the scientists find?

As reported by Forbes, the more tasks we delegate to AI algorithms, the less actively our brain engages in the process of processing information. This phenomenon has been termed cognitive offloading. 

Initially, it may seem beneficial: the brain "rests" by shedding unnecessary strain. However, over time, this leads to a loss of skills in evaluating and analysing data without the aid of digital technologies.

Despite potential risks, researchers note that artificial intelligence can become a powerful tool for expanding human capabilities. It is important that AI complements rather than replaces critical thinking. For instance, algorithms can assist in processing large volumes of data or suggest new ideas, but final decisions must remain with humans.
