Plane crash in South Sudan

A plane crash occurred near oil fields in South Sudan, killing 20 people. The sole survivor among the 21 passengers was an employee of the oil company for which the flight was being operated.

Details of the tragedy

The aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff while on a flight to transport workers to the country's capital, Juba. According to AFP, the aircraft was chartered by the oil company Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC), but its operation was handled by another airline, Light Air Services Aviation Company.

The state information minister in the northern part of the country, Gatwech Bipal Bot, confirmed in an interview with AFP that there were 21 people on board, of whom only one survived.
