News of Zakharchenko's resignation was a hoax

For the second day running, news feeds have been flooded with reports of Zakharchenko's resignation. The DNR leader allegedly stepped down due to health issues. Some media outlets immediately speculated that this referred to the injury sustained by Zakharchenko during the storming of Debaltseve.

However, it all turned out to be far more prosaic.

As it turned out, a number of media outlets had simply reprinted a "news item" published on the Russian TV channel "Zvezda" back in September of last year, 2014, without even checking the publication date, thereby misleading their audience.

Naturally, Alexander Zakharchenko did not submit any resignation. It is unlikely that he plans to leave such a lucrative position anytime soon, at least voluntarily.
