Human rights advocates have spoken out against Donald Trump's executive orders: first lawsuits filed

Human rights organisations have initiated legal proceedings to challenge an executive order by former US President Donald Trump, which suspends the granting of citizenship to children born on US soil to illegal migrants or individuals without permanent resident status.

Democrats and representatives of the state governments of California and Illinois intend to join the human rights advocates' initiative. They have already announced their plans to file similar lawsuits.

The complaints emphasise that the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution, which guarantees citizenship by birthright, contains no restrictions or additional conditions for its application. In the plaintiffs' view, this renders Trump's executive order unconstitutional.

Similar confrontations occurred during Trump's first presidential term, when his initiatives aimed at migrants were repeatedly blocked by the courts. Analysts note that Trump's current attempts to restrict migration rights may once again face the same obstacles in the judiciary.
