Karpenko-Kary University lecturer accused of sexual harassment

Andriy Bilous, artistic director of the Youth Theatre and lecturer at Ivan Karpenko-Kary National University of Theatre, Film and Television, has found himself at the centre of a scandal. An anonymous student accused him of sexual harassment and sending obscene messages.

Anonymous accusations

The post appeared on one of the YouTube channels that previously published recordings of student exams. In the video, a woman identifying herself as a university student claims that Bilous repeatedly sent her personal messages with an obscene undertone.

"When I wrote to him about the class schedule or asked about certain organisational matters, he would reply: 'Why do you only want to talk to me about work and not want to arouse me?' Or write that my messages arouse him," the anonymous student said.

University response

The administration of Ivan Karpenko-Kary National University of Theatre, Film and Television issued a statement calling the accusations false. The administration assured that no official complaints or statements from students had been received by the university.

The emergence of such accusations has sparked widespread public resonance. This is far from the first case where prominent figures in theatre and the arts have faced similar allegations; however, the absence of official statements and evidence complicates the conduct of an investigation.
