Slovakia's president devises way to retaliate against Ukraine

Since the beginning of January, Ukraine has halted the transit of Russian gas to European countries. In response, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini stated that he is cancelling his official visit to Kyiv. This was reported by Aktuality.sk.

“In the current circumstances, my trip to Ukraine makes no sense. If it is to be reduced to a photo session, without any guarantees of gas or oil supplies to Slovakia, I see no reason for the visit. I hope no one will take this personally,” Pellegrini noted.

The president also expressed concern that the actions of the Ukrainian authorities, including President Volodymyr Zelensky, have put Slovakia's energy security at risk. He emphasised that the cessation of gas transit creates serious risks for his country.

In addition, Pellegrini addressed the issue of oil supplies. “The Ukrainian parliament is considering a bill that could ban the transport of oil to Slovakia, despite existing agreements. In such a situation, a visit to Kyiv is out of the question for me,” the Slovak leader concluded.
