Russia ready to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated his readiness to discuss issues of security guarantees for Ukraine. 

However, his comment was accompanied by an ambiguous formulation: “the country that is now called Ukraine, or part of it that has not yet determined its status, unlike Crimea, Donbas and Novorossia” (the country that is now called Ukraine, or part of it that has not yet determined its status, unlike Crimea, Donbas and Novorossia).

Against the backdrop of these statements, Kyiv continues to insist on the provision of international security guarantees as a key condition for ending the military conflict. 

According to Bloomberg, former US President Donald Trump recognises the need to include such guarantees in any possible agreement, although he has previously spoken against Ukraine’s integration into NATO.
