US officially changes name of the Gulf of Mexico

A decision was recently made in the United States of America to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf. This step became part of a broader strategy aimed at asserting American identity in international waters.

Official government statement

The US Department of the Interior emphasised in its official directive that this gulf is "one of the most important assets in the country's history and economy" ("одним из важнейших активов в истории и экономике страны"), as well as a "cornerstone of national growth" ("краеугольным камнем роста нации").

The statement clarifies that the gulf holds strategic significance for the US, playing a key role in trade, energy and the region's ecosystems. In this regard, a step was taken to change its historical name.
