US halts funding for Politico and other media outlets
The US Department of Government Efficiency has decided to cease financial support for Politico and a number of other media outlets that were previously funded through USAID. This was announced by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Political accusations and Trump's reaction
Donald Trump's team had previously accused Politico of blatant bias and a protective stance towards Hunter Biden, which was particularly evident during the 2020 presidential campaign. These accusations concerned the coverage of scandals involving Biden and his role in political processes.

Reports have also appeared in the press stating that Politico received multi-million dollar grants from USAID, which drew additional attention to the potential political dependence of the media on external funding.
