Scholz does not obstruct weapons deliveries to Ukraine

The German government has denied media reports that Chancellor Olaf Scholz is allegedly blocking the allocation of a new aid package to Ukraine worth nearly €3 billion. 

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius noted that a "political decision" is required for the funds to be released.

Pistorius commented on the situation in an interview with the newspaper Tagesspiegel, which is scheduled to be published on 13 January. The Defence Minister clarified that the final approval of the aid package for Ukraine requires the completion of "internal coordination" within the government.

The minister categorically denied the information about a "blockade" and assured that there are no obstacles to the release of funds.

He also explained that the ministry has already prepared a new aid package for the Ukrainian armed forces, but the final decision on its transfer must be made by the government. Pistorius expressed confidence that a decision will be made in the near future: "As soon as all issues are resolved, I expect a positive decision".
