Ukrainians may be denied residence cards in Poland

One of the key conditions for obtaining a residence card in Poland based on employment is meeting the minimum income requirements. 

According to data from the publication inpoland.net, the minimum wage in the country has been set at 4,666 zloty from 1 January 2025, which is equivalent to over 47,600 hryvnias at the National Bank of Ukraine exchange rate. If the declared income falls below this threshold, the foreigner may be refused the document.

Income requirements

Foreign citizens, including Ukrainians, who have applied for a residence card on the basis of employment are required to confirm that their salary meets the established minimum requirements. This is particularly relevant for those whose income in 2024 did not reach the level of 4,666 zloty.

If the salary exceeds the minimum wage for 2025, no additional proof is required.

Legislative restrictions

Under Polish law, income below the established minimum is grounds for refusing to issue a residence card. This indicator applies regardless of the applicant's working hours during the month. Thus, the amount of the official salary must correspond to the minimum wage in force at the time the decision is made.

A residence card is a document that allows a foreigner to legally reside in Poland on a temporary or permanent basis. Cardholders gain access to most of the rights of the country's citizens, including the ability to cross the border without the need for a visa.
