Toys from Russian manufacturers are being sold in Ukraine

Analysts at the YouControl research centre, using the YC.Market tool, calculated that as of December 2024, 228 legal entities and 353 individual entrepreneurs were operating in the field of game and toy production in Ukraine. 

Of the 75 companies that submitted financial reports for 2023, the most profitable was "Intelcom", which earned 310.7 million hryvnia. Among the toy manufacturers are three enterprises registered in occupied Crimea. Two other companies are linked to citizens of Belarus.

The YouControl study provides details on these enterprises.

Toys and sanctions

The three toy manufacturers registered in Crimea were likely re-registered under Russian law: these are "Yevpatoria Toy Factory 'Topytzka'", "Subash", and "Firma 'Line'". One of the participants of "Subash", Antonina Mikhailovna Timchenko, is under sanctions imposed by Decree No. 280/2023 of the President of Ukraine.

Five other companies from the list under study have Russian citizens registered in occupied territories among their participants:

• LLC "BLESK-9" is registered in Luhansk Oblast, and its founder is Russian citizen Evgeny Messerman.
• LLC "Publishing House 'Third Planet'" is registered in Kyiv and has two participants from Russia — Serhiy Makhin and Evhenii Tulovsky, who own 50% of the charter capital.
• LLC "Double D" — 50% of the capital belongs to Dmytro Moskaiev, a Russian citizen. The company previously had a contract with JSC "Antonov" for the production of toy airplanes, but the contract was terminated by a court, and the company was ordered to pay a fine.
• LLC "City Toys" is headed by Russian citizen Yuri Astakhov.
• LLC "Union of Toy Manufacturers" is registered in Kirovohrad Oblast, and its participant is Russian citizen Oleksandr Serebriakov.

In addition, two companies have citizens of Belarus in their structure: LLC "Medzhit" and LLC "Smart Koala Trading".

Toy manufacturer LLC "MTM Golden Gun" is linked to a citizen of Iran who resides in Kyiv Oblast. Iran supports Russia in its aggressive actions against Ukraine.

Regional dynamics of toy production

About 33% of all registered legal entities in the toy production sector are located in Kyiv. 25 and 24 companies are registered in Lviv and Kharkiv Oblasts, respectively. Also, among the studied entities, four companies are part of financial and industrial groups, including LLC "Top Master", LLC "Minilend.ua", LLC "Adey Promotions", and LLC "Play Wood".

The company "Play Wood", registered in Kyiv, produces wooden construction sets and is based in Kharkiv. Founder Haryi Korodetskyi is also a well-known figure participating in the "Zhyzneliub" project. Meanwhile, "Minilend.ua" operates in the construction sector and significantly increased its revenue in 2023, exceeding last year's turnover by more than 10 times.

Overall, Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast lead in the number of individual entrepreneurs engaged in toy production.

Tender winners

In the context of public procurement, Vitalii Panasenko has the highest number of winning procedures (more than 600) among individual entrepreneurs operating in the toy sector, earning more than 40 million hryvnia. In second place is Yuriy Bokov, who won more than 280 tenders for a total of more than 60 million hryvnia. Oksana Klymenkova is also among the successful entrepreneurs with more than 150 wins for a total of 15 million hryvnia.

Revenue leaders

Of the 75 companies that submitted financial reports for 2023, total revenue amounted to almost 2 billion hryvnia. Top 5 companies by income:

1. LLC "Intelcom" — 310.7 million hryvnia.
2. LLC "Ukrainian Gears" — 243.6 million hryvnia.
3. LLC "Octo Family Group" — 176.4 million hryvnia.
4. LLC "Dream Group Toys" — 169.5 million hryvnia.
5. LLC "Tigres - Lux" — 138.9 million hryvnia.

Among the leaders of 2023 are companies that were also in the top five leaders of 2022, including "Intelcom", "Ukrainian Gears", and "Tigres - Lux".
