Alexander Borodai, a deputy of the Russian State Duma from the so-called "DNR" and a former leader of the separatists, officially acknowledged that Donbas has lost a significant part of its industrial and scientific-technical potential.
According to him, many enterprises in the region have simply ceased to function today.
Borodai recalled that during the Soviet era, Donbas was among the ten most developed industrial regions in the world. At the same time, the politician noted that this status has now been lost.
«Донбас ще за радянських часів був одним із десяти найбільш розвинених промислових регіонів світу. Зрозуміло, що зараз він цей статус, на жаль, утратив» (Donbas was one of the ten most developed industrial regions in the world back in the Soviet era. It is clear that it has unfortunately lost this status now), Borodai stated.
In addition to the halt in production, the deputy specifically pointed to significant losses in human, scientific, and technical resources.
«Є ще така річ, як людський науковий, технічний потенціал. Як ви розумієте, цей потенціал на Донбасі також значною мірою втрачений» (There is also such a thing as human, scientific, and technical potential. As you understand, this potential in Donbas has also been largely lost), he said, without specifying the concrete causes of this situation.
Borodai added that the region's industry is planned to be restored immediately once the operational situation permits.
