An accident involving People's Deputy Dmytro Kostyuk occurred in the centre of the capital. The incident took place on 5 October at approximately 15:40 on Magdeburg Right Alley.

Circumstances of the collision

Preliminary data indicates that the politician was crossing the road at an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing near the Dynamo Stadium. He was struck by a Hyundai, which, according to reports, was being driven by a citizen of Azerbaijan.

The driver did not leave the scene of the accident and personally took the injured man to a medical facility. Doctors diagnosed abrasions and a fracture of the phalanx of the big toe.

Deputy's comment

Kostyuk himself confirmed information about the incident on his Facebook page. He stated that he was walking from the Dynamo Stadium towards Khreshchatyk street when the car ran over his leg at the end of the crossing.

«Пишу, значить не помер» ("I am writing, which means I am not dead"), the MP commented on his condition.

Data security concerns

In addition to his injuries, the politician is concerned about how the video recording of the accident and the personal data of those involved quickly ended up online. According to him, law enforcement officers obtained footage from surveillance cameras on Hrushevskyi Street, after which these materials, along with information about him and the car driver, began to be shared on the internet.

Dmytro Kostyuk suggested that the data may have leaked from law enforcement structures. There is no official confirmation of this version yet.

Political context

Dmytro Kostyuk was elected to the Verkhovna Rada of the IX convocation in 2019 from single-mandate constituency No. 65 in Zhytomyr Oblast. He entered parliament from the journalistic community.

In July 2025, the deputy announced his departure from the "Servant of the People" faction, linking the decision to the vote on changes to the powers of the NABU and the SAP. Currently, the parliament's website states that he does not belong to any faction.

It is worth noting that another tragic traffic accident occurred in Kyiv on the same day: a 51-year-old KIA driver, who was intoxicated, struck a 50-year-old woman at a pedestrian crossing, who died at the scene. The driver was charged and taken into custody.
