A group of people's deputies, relying on the expert assistance of specialists from the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, developed Bill No. 16130 dated 7 October. The main objective of the document is to provide veterans with the opportunity to continue wearing military uniforms after leaving service without the need to obtain separate permits or undergo additional approvals.
As Interfax-Ukraine noted on Tuesday, 13 October, the right to wear the uniform will arise from the day of actual discharge from military service. If the veteran status was granted later, the corresponding right will take effect from the date of its issuance, taking into account the transitional provisions of the law.
Individuals who already hold veteran status and have been discharged from service as of the day this law enters into force will be granted this right automatically from the moment the provision takes effect.
Information about the possession of such a right is expected to be reflected in the electronic veteran certificate, specifically in the Diia app.
The Ministry of Veterans Affairs clarifies that veterans will be able to wear the uniform of the military formation or state body where they served. In the event that such a formation has ceased to exist, the uniform of its legal successor is permitted.
At the same time, legislators have provided for certain restrictions. It is prohibited to use military uniforms and insignia to impersonate an active-duty servicemember, as well as to create a false impression regarding one's position or official powers.
«Принциповий підхід законопроєкту – надати ветеранам і ветеранкам можливість носити військову форму без зайвої бюрократії та водночас запобігти її використанню для обману» (The fundamental approach of the bill is to provide veterans with the opportunity to wear military uniforms without unnecessary bureaucracy while simultaneously preventing their use for deception), the ministry added.
