Tehran sets preconditions for opening the strait

Speaker of the Iranian parliament Mohammad Ghalibaf confirmed that the strategic waterway through the Strait of Hormuz will not be opened to shipping until the implementation of seven specific demands from Tehran is ensured. According to him, these conditions are based on an interim agreement reached between Iran and the United States.

The Islamic Republic's position remains unchanged

Commenting on the current situation, Ghalibaf emphasised the determination and clarity of his country's position. He noted:

«Позиція Ісламської Республіки Іран є цілком чіткою та твердою: Ормузьку протоку не буде відкрито, доки не будуть виконані наші сім умов, що ґрунтуються на Меморандумі про взаєморозуміння, укладеному в Ісламабаді» (The position of the Islamic Republic of Iran is entirely clear and firm: the Strait of Hormuz will not be opened until our seven conditions, which are based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in Islamabad, are met).

Rejection of unilateral demands

According to the parliament speaker, the American side recently conveyed its package of proposals to Iranian officials using the services of a mediator. At the same time, Ghalibaf emphasised that the era when Washington could drag out the negotiation process or dictate terms unilaterally has already passed.

«Але вони повинні розуміти, що період затягування процесу та диктування односторонніх вимог закінчився» (But they must understand that the period of dragging out the process and dictating unilateral demands has ended), he added.
