Kia recalls over 80,000 vehicles due to wiring issues

Automaker Kia America has announced a recall of more than 80,000 vehicles due to a defect in the wiring located under the front passenger seat. 

The defect may lead to malfunctions in the airbag and seatbelt systems, posing a potential threat to passengers.

According to CNBC, information provided by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that damaged wiring may also trigger unintended deployment of side airbags, making the issue even more dangerous.

Which vehicles are subject to the recall?

The following models are covered by the programme:

• Kia Niro EV
• Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)
• Hybrid vehicles manufactured between 2023 and 2025.

The total number of vehicles subject to recall is 80,255 units.

Resolving the issue

Owners of affected vehicles are advised to visit authorised Kia dealerships free of charge. Specialists will inspect the condition of the wiring and, if necessary, replace it and ensure safe routing to eliminate the defect.
