A black shepherd dog, which was injured by a police officer in the shelter of a building on European Union Avenue on 27 October, has undergone surgery. Veterinarians worked for three hours to treat severe damage to the paw and shattered bones.
Long recovery ahead for the animal
The dog will require prolonged treatment, with at least three months of rehabilitation ahead. Funds are needed for further treatment and recovery from the severe injury.
Different versions of the incident
The patrol police claim that the shepherd dog attacked the inspector and bit him on the hand. However, animal rights activists, the dog's owner, and witnesses to the incident describe the situation entirely differently.
Activists emphasise that the animal behaves calmly around people. They are demanding not only to clarify the circumstances of the shooting but also to investigate why safe transportation was not organised and proper veterinary care was not provided after the injury.
Currently, the exact causes and the legality of the law enforcement officer's actions remain under investigation.
