Transport suspended due to bridge damage

Today, 1 January, two impacts of unmanned aerial vehicles were recorded near the support structure of the South Bridge in Kyiv. This was announced by Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Due to these incidents, the movement of the metro and surface public transport across the bridge has been temporarily suspended. Currently, specialists from the municipal enterprise "KyivavtoShliakhMost" are inspecting the structure to assess its technical condition after the impacts.

Passenger accounts

Information has appeared on social media that the attack on the South Bridge occurred while a metro train was crossing it. According to eyewitnesses, passengers heard an explosion and saw a bright flash.

Afterwards, smoke began to accumulate in the carriage, ash fell from the ventilation system, and windows were blown out. At this moment, no official data on casualties has been received. The train continued its movement and stopped at "Vidubychi" station, where passengers were disembarked.

Context: previous attacks on Kyiv

Recall that on 28 September, the aftermath of an attack by Russian drones was also recorded in Kyiv during the day. At that time, an impact occurred in an office building in the Shevchenkivskyi district. Information also appeared online about damage to the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, located at 54 Volodymyrska Street.
