Bribery attempt at Polish border

A case of attempted bribery of a State Border Guard Service representative was recorded at the "Hrushiv" checkpoint in Lviv region. A 28-year-old resident of Lviv, who was trying to cross the state border towards Poland, decided to influence the official's decision using cash.

The man tucked $600 into a folder with his personal documents and handed them to the female servicemember, expecting permission to leave. However, the border guard refused the money and acted in accordance with established procedures.

Incident details

As reported by the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment of the State Border Guard Service, during document inspection, the citizen failed to properly justify the purpose of his visit to the neighbouring country. To ensure his passage across the border, he decided to use financial influence.

After the refusal, the servicemember reported the signs of a criminal offence to the National Police authorities.

Criminal liability and statistics

The man's actions are classified under Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for the proposal, promise or provision of improper benefit to an official.

The Carpathian Detachment of the State Border Guard Service provided statistics on anti-corruption measures for 2026. Since the beginning of the year, servicemembers have refused bribes in 392 cases. The total amount of funds offered, in both hryvnia and foreign currencies, exceeded 1.6 million hryvnia.

The State Border Guard Service emphasises the principle of zero tolerance for corruption and calls on citizens not to offer improper benefits to servicemembers.
