German leader's assessment of Ukrainian actions
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed support for Ukraine's strikes on energy and logistics facilities within Russian territory. According to him, such actions are correct, justified, and understandable, as they target objectives that limit the Russian government's ability to wage war.
Lack of will for peace from Moscow
The head of the German government noted that he sees no desire on Russia's part to cease hostilities. Therefore, in his view, Ukrainian attacks on facilities that disrupt communications and energy supplies in Russia are justified.
Strategy of forcing negotiations
According to Merz, such actions are perhaps the only possible way for Ukraine to force Russia to understand Kyiv's readiness to defend itself and to sit Moscow down at the negotiating table.
Plans for contacts with Washington
The German Chancellor also announced his intention to discuss this issue personally with Donald Trump in December.
