Restrictions on Tehran's maritime infrastructure

The United States Department of the Treasury has introduced a new package of sanctions measures targeting Iran. The restrictions apply to 17 vessels belonging to the so-called "shadow fleet," as well as specific individuals and networks involved in logistical operations. The primary objective of these steps is to block channels for the transportation of Iranian crude oil, petroleum products, and petrochemical industry output.

Assessment of impact on oil exports

The US Treasury noted that the implemented measures represent the most significant blow to the remnants of Iran's illegal maritime infrastructure. According to a department representative, the sanctions neutralise the vast majority of the country's shadow fleet.

Official Washington cites data indicating that only approximately 20 million barrels of crude oil remain on vessels located outside the blockade zone off the coasts of Singapore, Malaysia, and China. For comparison, the global consumer base uses approximately 100 million barrels of oil per day.

Donald Trump's stance on negotiations

US President Donald Trump commented on the situation, stating that the United States is holding "productive negotiations" with Iran regarding the war. He also emphasised that the American side has no intention of launching an attack on Iran before the date of the midterm elections, scheduled for 3 November.
