The system of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine includes 790 veterans. To support them and strengthen team cohesion, the department has launched the Open Veterans' Mini-Football Tournament, dedicated to the Minister of Justice Cup. The head of the Ministry of Justice, Denis Maslov, announced the start of the competition.
Start in Kyiv: first confrontation
The first match was held at the sports arena of the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUBA). In the opening game, two teams faced off: the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine and the North-Central Interregional Directorate of the State Penitentiary Service.
Minister's position: sport as a tool for integration
Denis Maslov emphasised that supporting veterans who continue to work within the Ministry of Justice structure is a priority direction for the department. He highlighted the importance of creating conditions for self-development and the realisation of each employee's potential.
«Для мене важливо, щоб кожен із них відчував, що ми цінуємо їхній досвід й створюємо умови для їх саморозвитку та реалізації» (It is important to me that each of them feels that we value their experience and create conditions for their self-development and realisation), the minister noted.
According to the head of the department, such events have not only sporting significance. They help maintain connections among comrades, establish new acquaintances, and foster a sense of belonging to the collective.
«Такі ініціативи – це значно більше, ніж спорт. Це можливість бути частиною команди, відчувати підтримку побратимів, знаходити нові знайомства та разом рухатися вперед» (Such initiatives are much more than sport. It is an opportunity to be part of a team, feel the support of comrades, make new acquaintances, and move forward together), Maslov added.
Tournament geography and prospects
The competition will not be limited to a single match. Organisers are opening participation to veteran teams of Ukraine's Security and Defence Forces, public associations, and territorial communities. Further matches are planned to be held in various regions of the country.
The culmination of the event will be the final match, which is scheduled to take place in spring 2027. The minister thanked colleagues for organising the event and wished participants exciting matches and fair sportsmanship.
It is worth noting that previously, a meeting of the State Penitentiary Service Council on Veterans' Policy was held in Kyiv with the participation of Denis Maslov. During the meeting, issues of support and rehabilitation for veterans were discussed, and the study "Portrait of a Veteran" was presented.
