According to data released by CNN sources, some members of the Republican Party intend to pin the blame for the start of the war with Iran on US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. The publication's interlocutors claim that this war was the cause of the Republicans' defeat in the recent elections.
The initiators of the procedure plan to bring the question of Hegseth's impeachment to a vote as early as next week. Supporters of this initiative accuse the Secretary of convincing President Donald Trump to launch a military operation against Iran without having a clear exit strategy from the conflict or a plan to resolve the inevitable political consequences.
Meanwhile, according to CNN sources in the White House, Donald Trump continues to trust Pete Hegseth and has a personal fondness for him. The US President intends to actively oppose attempts to declare impeachment against the Secretary or launch an investigation into him.
One official told the channel that just two days ago, Trump was in the same room as the Secretary and told him: «Ти найкращий із усіх, хто в мене є» (You are the best of all that I have).
In addition, the American President fears a possible resignation by Hegseth. This is linked to the fact that approving a new candidate for the post of Secretary of War requires the consent of the Senate, where, according to source forecasts, Democrats will hold the majority from next year.
Removing the Secretary of War from office requires the support of a simple majority in the House of Representatives and two-thirds of the Senate. Thus, the initiators of the procedure will have to secure the votes of a significant part of their own party — the Republicans.
If Trump opposes the impeachment of his Secretary, gathering the necessary number of votes will be difficult.
