On 24 October, on United Nations Day, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sibiha published a statement on the social network X. The head of diplomacy stressed that Ukraine consistently adheres to the UN Charter and calls on all countries of the world to do the same.
Sibiha recalled that Ukraine participated in formulating the fundamental principles enshrined in the organisation's foundational document. At the same time, he noted that the current international system, which is supposed to ensure peace and security, is currently failing to fulfil its assigned functions.
According to the minister, the UN remains an important global platform where Ukraine's voice is heard and the truth about Russian aggression reaches the international community. It is here that countries defend Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Україна твердо дотримується Статуту ООН і закликає всі держави чинити так само. Настав час довести, що Статут ООН — більше, ніж просто декларація благих намірів”, — написав Сибіга. (Ukraine firmly adheres to the UN Charter and calls on all states to do the same. It is time to prove that the UN Charter is more than just a declaration of good intentions, Sibiha wrote.)
The main priority for the international community on UN Day, according to the Foreign Minister, is holding the aggressor state accountable. He emphasised the need to return to compliance with the fundamental norms of international law.
“У День Організації Об’єднаних Націй головне бажання та основне завдання — забезпечити притягнення до відповідальності порушника Статуту ООН, відновити повагу до його основоположних принципів і забезпечити спроможність ефективно підтримувати міжнародний мир, а також безпеку”, — наголосив міністр закордонних справ. (On United Nations Day, the main wish and primary task is to ensure the accountability of the violator of the UN Charter, restore respect for its fundamental principles, and ensure the capacity to effectively maintain international peace and security, the Foreign Minister stressed.)
