A criminal case has been opened against Andriy Pyshnyy, head of the National Bank of Ukraine. The initiative is linked to suspicions of providing knowingly false information to members of the Verkhovna Rada’s temporary investigative committee (TSC).

Nature of the accusations

According to MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, who cites his own sources, the case concerns Pyshnyy’s statements regarding a recommendation to appoint a specific individual to the management of “Sens Bank”.

During the committee’s session on 10 September, Shevki Adjuner, who previously chaired the bank’s supervisory board, stated that the NBU head personally recommended appointing Vesely to the position. According to Adjuner, the aim of this step was to improve the financial institution’s communication with state bodies following its nationalisation.

Andriy Pyshnyy categorically denied these claims. However, in response to a TSC request, Adjuner again confirmed that Pyshnyy was the initiator of Vesely’s appointment.

Actions of the MPs

Given the contradictory testimonies, MPs passed information to law enforcement agencies about two possible violations: illegal influence on the bank’s activities and the provision of inaccurate information to the investigative committee.

Case context

Previously, information emerged that Vesely appears on audio recordings linked to Timur Mindich. These recordings allegedly discuss the appointment of “insiders” to the new composition of the “Sens Bank” supervisory board together with Tzukerman.

Additionally, financial and political circles have long discussed a possible connection between Andriy Pyshnyy and former head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak. Against this backdrop, speculation about preparations for the National Bank head’s resignation has circulated for several months.
