Change in arms export policy
The administration of US President Donald Trump has decided to remove Syria from the list of states subject to a full ban on the supply of American weapons. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP).
The new rules took effect on Thursday. From now on, requests for arms sales to Syria will no longer be subject to automatic rejection but will be reviewed on an individual basis, taking into account the specifics of each case.
Current list of sanctioned countries
As a result of this update, only seven states remain subject to the policy banning the issuance of arms export licences. These include:
- Belarus;
- China;
- Cuba;
- Iran;
- Myanmar;
- North Korea;
- Venezuela.
It is worth noting that Russia is not included in this list.
