US President Donald Trump expressed the view that the destruction of major cities such as Los Angeles or San Diego could be an acceptable sacrifice to preserve peace and security in the country. These remarks were made during his speech at a rally in Nebraska.
Comment amid rising fuel prices
The head of state's statements were a reaction to discussions about rising gasoline prices, which are linked to the ongoing conflict with Iran. Trump emphasised that costs associated with war are often presented as excessive, but are actually insignificant compared to the value of stability.
“Remember, when it comes to war, it is all artificially inflated. It is a bit expensive, but it is a small price to pay to preserve the peace and security of our country. They can destroy a city. Let them destroy Los Angeles, let them destroy San Diego. It is a very small price,” the US president stated.
Expectations of a swift end to the conflict
Following these statements, Donald Trump added that military operations must end very quickly. According to him, the conflict is already effectively nearing its end.
