Washington's position on the "energy truce"

As reported by Axios, citing sources, a White House representative explained the essence of US President Donald Trump's initiative. According to the official, the "energy truce" announced by Trump on Sunday entails Russia and Ukraine ceasing attacks exclusively on each other's oil refineries. The US administration expects Volodymyr Zelensky to adhere to these terms.

The White House representative added that if the parties stop striking oil processing facilities, the next stage could be an agreement to halt attacks on power plants and energy grids.

Asymmetry of terms for Kyiv and Moscow

The publication notes that the proposal, which the White House representative called a "refinery for refinery" formula, is significantly unequal. A Ukrainian official explained to Axios that Ukraine operates only one oil refinery, which has repeatedly suffered Russian attacks and is currently not operating at full capacity. In contrast, Russia has an extensive network of such facilities.

«Ми імпортуємо дизельне паливо та газ. Нам потрібно, щоб росіяни припинили атакувати нашу електромережу» ("We import diesel fuel and gas. We need the Russians to stop attacking our power grid"), said the Ukrainian official.

White House reaction and impact on leaders' relations

The US administration representative responded: «Росіяни думають над цим. Скоро ми дізнаємося, чи готові вони до цього» ("The Russians are thinking about it. We will soon find out if they are ready for this").

Meanwhile, the White House warns that Ukraine's attacks on Russian refineries are doing more damage to Zelensky's relationship with Trump than Russia itself. «Трамп справді розлючений. Він вважає, що Зеленський сприймає допомогу США як належне» ("Trump is truly furious. He believes Zelensky takes US aid for granted"), noted the White House representative.

Delay of negotiations in Moscow

It is also reported that against the backdrop of the crisis with Ukraine, US Presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have postponed their planned trip to Moscow. This decision is explained by the fact that the visit will not take place "at least until it becomes clear whether Ukraine and European countries are ready to agree on a new coordinated proposal for Putin".
