Trump claims Russia and Ukraine agreed to energy truce despite denials by both sides

US President Donald Trump commented on the state of the energy truce between Ukraine and Russia, which he himself announced. In his view, neither side adhered to the ceasefire regime, and the agreement was reached thanks to his personal intervention.

Russia and Ukraine violated the terms

Commenting on the events that took place after the initiative was announced, the American leader noted that strikes continued from both sides. When asked by journalists about Russia violating the ceasefire in the evening, Trump responded concisely: «Порушення були з обох боків» (Violations were on both sides).

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian and Russian sides publicly reported the absence of any official agreement on such terms. However, the US President insisted on the opposite, claiming that a deal had indeed been reached.

«Вони досягли угоди. Знаєте чому? Тому що я сказав: "Ви повинні погодитися". Ось чому» (They reached a deal. Do you know why? Because I said: "You must agree". That is why), he explained.

Assessment of leaders' positions

Trump was separately asked about the attitude of Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin towards the proposal to stop attacks on energy infrastructure. Journalists reminded him that the Ukrainian President supported this initiative, while the Russian leader did not express agreement.

However, Donald Trump believes that both leaders are inclined towards a deal. «Я думаю, що вони обоє її підтримують. Я думаю, що Путін хоче укласти угоду, і нам потрібно переконати Зеленського також захотіти укласти угоду» (I think they both support it. I think Putin wants to make a deal, and we need to convince Zelensky to also want to make a deal), the US President stated.

He also added that, in his belief, Vladimir Putin is more eager to conclude the deal than Volodymyr Zelensky. It is worth noting that Trump's words about the existence of a deal are not confirmed by official statements from the sides regarding the achievement of consensus on the joint terms of the energy truce.
