Kyiv's readiness to sign documents
President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine is ready to officially sign guarantees providing for the abstention from strikes on energy infrastructure facilities. The head of state voiced this position during a speech at the Warsaw Security Forum, which took place on Monday.
Conditions for implementing the initiative
According to Zelensky, for the successful implementation of the energy ceasefire, Russia must also clearly demonstrate its agreement to comply with such conditions. He emphasised that Kyiv is awaiting details of negotiations between the American and Russian sides.
«Ми чекаємо, щоб побачити, які конкретні кроки готові зробити американці. Це енергетичне перемир'я може спрацювати. І воно може стати важливим кроком на шляху до припинення війни, якщо американці справді втрутяться зараз і забезпечать дотримання Росією енергетичного перемир'я» (We are waiting to see what specific steps the Americans are ready to take. This energy ceasefire could work. And it could become an important step on the path to ending the war if the Americans really intervene now and ensure Russia's compliance with the energy ceasefire), the president noted.
Position on the role of the US and Europe
Zelensky expressed gratitude to the United States and confirmed support for the idea of an energy ceasefire. He added that Ukraine is ready to sign the relevant guarantees to convince partners of the reliability of its commitments, if this is necessary for the American side.
«І тепер Росія також повинна продемонструвати, що вона погоджується на це енергетичне перемир'я. І якщо американцям це потрібно, ми готові підписати ці гарантії, щоб переконати у їхній надійності. І важливо, щоб ми всі однаково сприймали цю ситуацію» (And now Russia must also demonstrate that it agrees to this energy ceasefire. And if the Americans need it, we are ready to sign these guarantees to convince them of their reliability. And it is important that we all perceive this situation in the same way), the head of state emphasised.
The president also underlined that no European country rejects the idea of peace or seeks to prolong hostilities. He added that no one in Europe wishes the US anything bad, except Russia.
