Recording of suspicious activity

Research organisation Transluce reported a series of attempts to compromise the digital resources of Library and Archives Canada, the government body that serves as Canada's national library. It emerged that the initiators of the attacks were artificial intelligence agents. According to the analysis, the attackers failed to breach the system's protective mechanisms.

Response from Canadian security agencies

The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security confirmed that it had been informed of suspicious network activity. However, the institution's experts emphasised that no signs of successful intrusion or data leakage were detected.

Incident details and link to OpenAI

According to data released by Reuters, peaks of suspicious activity were recorded on 28 May and 9 June. During monitoring, approximately 900 requests to Canadian infrastructure were documented. There is currently no reason to believe that the attackers gained access to confidential information.

Researchers were unable to determine the exact affiliation of the AI agents. However, their behaviour was found to be similar to activity previously linked to the company OpenAI. OpenAI stated that it is reviewing the findings of the research and is in contact with Canadian authorities.
