Risk of fuel price hikes approaches
The Ukrainian petroleum products market is preparing for a new wave of price increases, which could begin as early as the end of the current month. The main pressure on consumers will come from rising auto gas and diesel fuel prices, while petrol is likely to maintain its value at a stable level.
Auto gas forecast: the 50-hryvnia threshold
According to estimates by Serhiy Kuyun, director of the consulting group "A-95", the average cost of auto gas at gas stations (GSPs) may reach the 49–50 UAH per litre mark. This forecast is based on current dynamics, as the average price of "green fuel" has already risen by more than 3 UAH over the past week.
Some major GSP chains have already approached this psychological threshold. For example, in the OKKO chain, auto gas is sold for approximately 49.90 UAH per litre, while in WOG it is 49.50 UAH. If current trends persist, the average price may settle in the 49–50 UAH range by the end of October.
Diesel: the gap between wholesale and retail
The situation with diesel fuel is also causing concern among experts. The main reason for potential price hikes is the significant difference between wholesale and retail prices. Currently, the wholesale cost of diesel has reached 103–105 UAH per litre, while the average price at filling stations remains at around 100 UAH.
As Serhiy Kuyun notes, this imbalance creates preconditions for GSP chains to revise their pricing policies upwards. Further dynamics will depend on whether network operators can maintain current retail prices despite rising procurement costs. Diesel could potentially become more expensive by several hryvnias.
Petrol stability and current prices
Unlike auto gas and diesel, the expert does not currently expect a sharp jump in petrol prices. The price of petrol is likely to remain more stable compared to other types of fuel.
As of 16 October, average fuel prices in Ukraine are as follows:
- A-95 petrol — 89.55 UAH/l;
- A-95+ petrol — 93.52 UAH/l;
- diesel fuel — 99.70 UAH/l;
- auto gas — 48.20 UAH/l.
Thus, in the coming weeks, drivers should pay particular attention to changes in diesel and auto gas prices, while petrol has a greater chance of avoiding significant price hikes.
