The Verkhovna Rada’s Temporary Investigative Committee, which specialises in protecting human rights during mobilisation, reviewed a case in Kropyvnytskyi. The focus was on a situation where a person subject to military service, Yevheniy, was forcibly brought to the Territorial Centre for Recruitment and Social Support together with his eight-year-old daughter. According to the data, the child was kept within these walls for over 10 hours, with nearly eight of those hours spent isolated from her father.
Circumstances of the detention
The incident occurred when the man was stopped in a car, in which his daughter, born in 2018, was travelling with him. Despite Yevheniy explaining that the child was in his care and that her mother was temporarily staying in Dnipro, both were taken to the city’s TCC. It is known that the defender and his lawyers were not allowed into the premises for a long time.
Position of the TCC leadership
Oleksandr But, the head of the regional TCC, explained the actions of his subordinates, citing violations of military registration rules and the man’s lack of a military medical commission conclusion. In his words, Yevheniy had the opportunity to take his daughter to relatives himself during the detention.
Committee reaction and further actions
Later, representatives of the juvenile police took the child and handed her over to her mother, who arrived urgently from Dnipro. The head of the Temporary Investigative Committee is demanding a thorough official investigation into the actions of the TCC leadership in Kropyvnytskyi. A demand is also being made to hold the guilty parties accountable. Among the key issues requiring verification are possible violations of the child’s rights and restrictions on access to legal aid.
