Tusk: Trying to blame Ukraine for the war is free aid to Putin

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk categorically rejected any attempts to divide responsibility for the armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia. In his words, attempts to shift the blame to Kyiv are nothing more than a gift to Vladimir Putin.

Full responsibility of Moscow

Speaking on Monday during the opening of the Warsaw Security Forum, the head of the Polish government emphasised that it is unacceptable to allow the dilution of Russia's responsibility for the war it ignited.

«Ніхто й ніщо не зніме з Росії повної, стовідсоткової відповідальності за війну в Україні. Кожен, хто намагається поставити сторони на один рівень, кожен, хто припускає, що за війну відповідальна Україна, робить надзвичайно цінний подарунок агресору — Путіну» (No one and nothing will remove Russia's full, one hundred percent responsibility for the war in Ukraine. Anyone who tries to put the parties on an equal footing, anyone who assumes that Ukraine is responsible for the war, is making an extremely valuable gift to the aggressor — Putin), the Polish Prime Minister stated.

Warning to Western countries

Tusk drew attention to the fact that such narratives, which remove blame from the aggressor, are increasingly heard not only in Moscow but also in some Western capitals.

«Ми не можемо допустити, щоб хтось розмивав відповідальність за цю війну» (We cannot allow anyone to dilute responsibility for this war), he emphasised.

According to the Prime Minister, security has ceased to be an abstract concept or a purely academic issue for Western countries. Against the backdrop of recent events, he called for speaking directly about obvious things, including the fact that distorting reality can be one of the most effective allies of the Russian aggressor.

«Ми тут, у Польщі, Європі, на Заході, не можемо дозволити собі жодних ілюзій, не можемо дозволити собі ані найменшої неправди в оцінці того, що сьогодні відбувається в Україні» (We here, in Poland, in Europe, in the West, cannot allow ourselves any illusions, we cannot allow ourselves the slightest untruth in assessing what is happening in Ukraine today), the Prime Minister said.

Donald Tusk concluded that Russia's war against Ukraine is a confrontation between evil and good.
