Recording of seismic activity

On 30 October at 02:14 Kyiv time, an earthquake was recorded in the territory of Poltava region. According to the Main Centre for Special Control, the magnitude of the tremors was 3.2 on the Richter scale.

The epicentre of the event was located in Machukhivska hromada of Poltava district. The exact coordinates of the source are indicated as 49.53° north latitude and 34.4° east longitude.

Characteristics of the tremors

According to the existing classification, an earthquake of this magnitude belongs to the category of barely felt events.

It is worth noting that the Richter scale is a tool that allows seismologists to determine the magnitude, i.e. the amount of energy released during underground tremors. The higher the magnitude indicator, the more powerful the earthquake and the more serious its potential consequences.

Annual statistics

The incident recorded on 30 October became the tenth earthquake registered in Poltava region during the current year.

Other seismic events

Recall that previously, in the early hours of 10 August, underground tremors were also observed near the coast of the temporarily occupied Crimea. According to preliminary data, at least three earthquakes may have occurred within a few hours, the strongest of which had a magnitude of 4.4.
