Murder of prominent businessman in Plovdiv

A tragedy has occurred in the city of Plovdiv: the deceased has been identified as the well-known Bulgarian businessman Iliyan Filipov. He was known as the founder and head of the football club "Botev", as well as the chairman of the transport company PIMK, which is among the largest in the country.

According to information provided by Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), the incident took place around 1:00 am. Filipov was shot on the grounds of his own estate. Preliminary investigation data indicates that the shot was directed at his head.

Details of the suspect's detention

Law enforcement agencies have already identified and detained a 51-year-old man believed to be involved in the murder. It is known that the detainee previously worked for one of the companies owned by Iliyan Filipov.

According to BNR data, the man has a criminal past, and law enforcement officers have known him since the 1990s. The Bulgarian Minister of the Interior stated that the investigation has evidence pointing to the detainee as the direct perpetrator of the crime. Meanwhile, the investigation is ongoing.

Interior Minister's position on video recordings

Earlier, publications appeared in the media drawing attention to discrepancies between the appearance of the detainee and the person captured by surveillance cameras near the scene of the incident. The Minister of the Interior urged citizens not to draw hasty conclusions based solely on these video materials.
