Ukraine has secured the return of seven civilians from temporarily occupied territories. This was announced by the Parliamentary Ombudsman for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets. He emphasised that agreements on mutual return were reached thanks to the functioning of a humanitarian communication channel with the Russian Ombudsman for Human Rights, Yana Lantratova.
“Thanks to my humanitarian communication channel with the Russian Ombudsman for Human Rights, Yana Lantratova, it was possible to reach agreements on the mutual return of civilians,” Lubinets said.
According to the Ombudsman, seven Ukrainians returned to territory under Ukrainian control. Meanwhile, as part of a family reunification programme implemented with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), seven civilians also travelled to the Russian Federation.
Among those returned are a 90-year-old woman with limited mobility and a 50-year-old Ukrainian woman. The latter suffered a myocardial infarction and a stroke and has other illnesses. Given the health condition of both women, necessary transport conditions were ensured during the organisation of their return.
The return of a young woman and her child was also organised. When the full-scale invasion began, the woman was temporarily in Mariupol. As a result of the fighting and the subsequent occupation of the city, she was unable to return to her family.
A significant obstacle to returning to territory under Ukrainian control was the documentation of the child. They are now home but require psychological support.
