Extradition and start of court proceedings

42-year-old Ukrainian citizen Kyrylo Khytrov has been brought to trial in the US on charges of causing a fatal traffic accident in the state of Florida. According to investigation data, the incident occurred in the summer of 2024, when the man was driving a car in a state of severe alcohol intoxication. After the accident, in which 93-year-old Audrey Milk died, he left the territory of the United States.

The extradition process took a long time. In May 2025, Interpol placed Khytrov on an international wanted list. In early 2026, he was detained in Georgia while attempting to cross the border with Armenia. On 29 October, the man was brought to Florida, and the following day, on 30 October, he appeared in court for the first time. The judge decided to keep the defendant in custody without the possibility of bail. The next court hearing is scheduled for 9 November.

Circumstances of the accident and driver's condition

The catastrophe occurred on 2 July 2024 in the city of Boca Raton. According to the investigation, Khytrov was driving a BMW and turned left on a red light. As a result, a collision occurred with an Acura SUV in which an elderly woman was sitting. Six days after the accident, Audrey Milk died in hospital from her injuries.

Lab test results revealed that the driver's blood alcohol level was approximately 0.307%. This is nearly four times the permissible threshold in Florida, which is 0.08%.

Defendant's status and personal details

Court documents indicate that at the time he was placed on the wanted list, Khytrov had already lost his legal immigration status in the US. The deceased Audrey Milk was a relative of the famous American politician and gay rights activist Harvey Milk.

The victim's son, Stewart, told journalists that he had almost lost hope that the defendant would be returned to the US for trial. If the court finds Khytrov guilty, he faces a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
