Discovery of smuggled cargo on the highway

Officers of the Polish National Tax Administration in the Silesian Voivodeship stopped a truck travelling on the A1 motorway for inspection. During the check, they discovered a massive quantity of tobacco products in the vehicle's cargo area, lacking Polish excise stamps.

According to expert estimates, the total value of the confiscated goods is nearly 10 million zloty. The number of cigarette packs exceeded 9 million units.

Technical violations and the suspect

In addition to the primary offence, discrepancies were found during the review of technical documentation and the vehicle itself. Specifically, the registration numbers of the tractor unit and the semi-trailer were identical, and one of the chassis identification numbers (VIN) was damaged.

The driver of the truck was a citizen of the United Kingdom. He was charged with the illegal transport of excisable goods.

Court decision

The judicial body reviewed the case materials and decided to apply a preventive measure in the form of detention to the driver. The term of deprivation of liberty was set at three months.
