Warning on impact on international relations
Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Vereshchuk expressed her position regarding the decision of the Lviv Oblast Council, which declared 2027 the Year of Roman Shukhevych and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. She opposed this move, stating that such initiatives could negatively affect bilateral ties between Ukraine and Poland.
Iryna Vereshchuk outlined her reasoning in a personal post. She emphasised that local authorities are obliged to take into account the state's overall foreign policy priorities.
«Місцева влада не може нехтувати зовнішньополітичними інтересами держави Україна» ("Local authorities cannot disregard the foreign policy interests of the state of Ukraine"), stressed the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office.
Appeal to the deputies
According to Iryna Vereshchuk, the current decision of the Lviv Oblast Council is already harming relations with Poland. She appealed to the deputies to act pragmatically and responsibly.
«Закликаю вас до прагматизму та державної відповідальності. Сподіваюся, ви мене почуєте» ("I call on you to be pragmatic and show state responsibility. I hope you will hear me"), she noted.
It is worth noting that Iryna Vereshchuk was born in the Lviv region and previously held the position of mayor of Rava-Ruska.
